I had a corporate president friend tell me the other day that almost every single Fortune 500 Company CEO has sessions with a counselor. How much more should we as church leaders have outside influence that give us fresh ideas and perspective? Most corporate companies bring in outside consultants to give a fresh honest perspective of the business, along with cultural analysis, and solutions. But in the church world we tend to just keep plugging along week after week, doing the same thing over and over hoping for some kind of miraculous change and momentum to happen.
YOU WILL NEVER GET ANYWHERE BY YOURSELF!
I’ve discovered that mentors come in various seasons and times in our lives. Some come for a short season, and some develop into long term relationships that we still feed from. When your mentor becomes a friend it is very rewarding. Mentors tend to share with you the nuts and bolts of the ‘how to’. Like how to work at your new job. How to do life, or how to manage people. The fact is our whole society at its core was developed and designed to be modeled and mentored. I think it is a basic need in humanity to be mentored.
In an article published by the Harvard Business Review, author Joseph Bailey examined what it took to be a successful executive. In conducting his research, he interviewed more than thirty top executives and found that every one of them learned firsthand from a mentor. I mean when you think about it, learning academically will only take you so far in life. You can learn all about a subject or profession but at some point you must have someone ‘show’ you the ‘how to’ apply what you just learned.
We have met and worked with many wonderful leaders over these almost 30 years of ministry experience. Mentors Manna has grown out of a passion we have to offer a couple of the most important ingredients that I see in the role of leaders today:
1. Mentoring from a relational perspective
2. Leadership training and team building
It has become our passion in this season of our lives to impart these two things. Many Pastors and leaders that I am around are great preachers, exciting and motivational, but just need some help in training and building the team around them.
I'm convinced that its going to take a TEAM to manifest the DREAM!
Most leaders that I meet and fellowship have spiritual fathers and mentors on paper through organizations but not really having someone press the flesh as my Bishop says. We desire to provide these two needed things, to bring these great organizations into the Apostolic order of the Kingdom!
